Marriage Licenses

Requirements for a marriage license to be issued in Cherry County

  1. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. You cannot marry in Nebraska if you are under 17. 
  2. Parental consent is required for applicants who are 17 or 18 years of age.  The parental consent forms are available at the County Clerk’s office.
  3. One form of identification is required, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  4. Provide the full names and birthplaces of the bride and groom.
  5. Provide the full names and birthplaces of both parents.  (including maiden names)
  6. The bride and groom shall provide their Social Security Numbers, if they have one. 
  7. If there was a previous marriage, we will need to know the date the marriage ended. 
  8. Marriage Licenses are good for one year from the date of issuance anywhere in the State of Nebraska
  9. A couple may apply for their certification in any county in Nebraska and use it to be married in any Nebraska county.
  10. Marriage Certifications MUST be returned to the Clerk’s office where applied and signed by the Clerk to become a legal license.
  11. Once signed by the Clerk, it becomes a license and will remain on file in the Clerk’s office forever.
  12. You can receive certified marriage licenses from the county you applied as necessary for name change, legal documents, etc.

To receive a certified marriage license you will need to send the following information:

  • Name of Applicant #1
  • Name of Applicant #2
  • Month, day and year of marriage
  • Self-addressed, postage-paid envelope
  • $9.00 (make checks payable to Cherry County Clerk)

(You must have received your marriage license in Cherry County for us to send you a certified copy.)

Vital Records – Marriage Certificate

The fee for a marriage license is $25.00, cash or check.

A Certified Copy of a Marriage Record is $9.00, cash or check.
